Wearing heavy earrings for long periods, children pulling on earrings, or piercing in the wrong position are one of the causes of the trauma of the lobe. However, the cause is not that important. What matters is that there is a way to correct the issue. Earlobe repair helps you restore the symmetry of your lobes. Ear lobe repair is a simple but effective procedure. The earlobe repair is an in-office procedure done to reshape the lobes.

Why is it needed?

You’ll need an earlobe repair because of the following:

  • You have been wearing heavy earrings for a long time
  • Children pull your earrings
  • Gauges have increased the size and weight of your earlobe
  • Sudden trauma
  • Your earrings are caught and pulled
  • Multiple piercings too close to the earlobe

How is it done?

Earlobe repair is an outpatient procedure done under local anesthesia. You can drive yourself home after the repair. The surgeon begins by marking the earlobe using a skin marker. The next step is the injection with a numbing medicine followed by cleansing of the ear.

The old piercing is removed to ensure there is proper closure. The surgeon closes the wound in layers to take off tension on the outer part of the incision. Any excess earlobe is trimmed and the lobes are closed with sutures. Absorbable or permanent sutures are used to close the skin depending on the individual’s case.

The sutures are removed after one week. You’ll be given an antibiotic ointment to apply to the sutures two times a day for one week. There are no medications needed for earlobe repair. You can resume normal activities immediately.
