RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERY

Breast reconstruction is used to restore one or both breasts to the shape, appearance, symmetry and size they were prior to mastectomy, lumpectomy or due to congenital deformities. Multiple procedures are usually required, performed in stages and can either begin at the time of mastectomy or be delayed until a later date.

Resensation is the first treatment that can restore breast sensation. This surgery has the potential to give women feeling in their breasts again. When sensation is restored to breasts after mastectomy and reconstruction, women have the ability to not only look like themselves again but also the potential to feel more like themselves again.

Flap (or autologous) reconstruction uses the patient’s own tissue from another part of the body to form a new breast. Flap breast reconstruction will be necessary for patients with insufficient tissue on the chest wall and those who don’t desire implants. Dr. Ghaznavi performs various types of free flap reconstruction, including DIEP, TUG, PAP and TDAP.
