What is the procedure like?

The breast augmentation procedure is performed under general anesthesia or local anesthetic and takes about two hours.

Dr. Amir Ghaznavi, our board certified doctor, will make an incision in the breast crease and will place a saline filled implant or silicon filled implant between a chest wall and the breast tissue. The incisions are then closed with sutures that look like shoelaces.

What are the breast implants made of?

At AMG Plastic Surgery in Herndon, VA, we are proud to use Sientra® silicone gel implants. Sientra® is among the safest gel implant options available. Designed to hold their shape while maintaining a remarkably soft feel, Sientra® implants offer advantages in comfort and longevity in addition to their many safety benefits.

Is it a risky procedure?

Like with any major surgery, complications can occur with breast augmentation. Common complications include:

  • Capsular contracture (the forming of scar tissue around the implant)
  • Rupture
  • Infection

Using high-quality, FDA-approved implants help reduce complication rates. The FDA recommends that patients receive regular MRIs every three years after implantation surgery and every two years after that.

If you experience any sign of infection, or sudden or ongoing pain in the breast or scar tissue, contact your doctor right away.

How long is the recovery time?

The typical recovery time for the surgery is about one week. However, your specific recovery time may vary depending on the type of surgery that you undergo and the extent of the surgery. During your recovery, it is important to follow your surgeon’s instructions carefully to ensure a safe and speedy recovery.

Breast augmentation is an excellent option for women who want to improve the shape and size  of their breasts. It is important to remember that breast augmentation is a major surgery and it should not be undertaken lightly. It is crucial to consult with a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon and to carefully consider all of the potential risks and complications.
